As of February 18 no outdoor mask mandate. As of March 1 no vaccination requirement for visitors to WWU campus.

10/1/2021 3:44:00 PM

Updated COVID-19 Information (as of February 23):

Event Attendance on Campus:

In alignment with the State of Washington, as of March 1st, vaccination and negative test verification will no longer be required by Western for on-campus events or visitors.

Mask Policy:
Western will no longer require masking at large outdoor events, beginning February 18. We still encourage folks to mask up in these settings, even if they are not required to do so. Masking at large outdoor events was the only requirement from Western regarding masking outdoors. Western's indoor mask mandate has not changed. We will continue to monitor changes to state requirements, CDC and health department guidance, and local metrics, and publish widely to the campus community if our indoor mask mandate changes.

The Following information is being retained for historical perspective, but is no longer in effect for the fan policy:

BELLINGHAM, Wash. –
Western Washington University administration has updated its safety measures for visitors to campus, including a new fan attendance policy for all athletic sporting events held inside Carver Gymnasium.

The new policy falls in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines, and to provide a safe environment for all visitors to the WWU campus, including student-athletes, coaches, staff and spectators. The fan policy went into place on October 18.

  • Proof of Vaccination: All athletic-event spectators ages 12 and older are required to provide proof of vaccination, including a CDC-issued Vaccination Record Card (or photo of the card) to enter ticketed events.
  • Negative COVID Test: Fans ages 12 and older who cannot provide proof of vaccination may present proof of negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours instead of proof of vaccination (for non-WWU students).
    • Test should be conducted by a healthcare provider, laboratory, pharmacy, or the like
    • Home tests are not acceptable
  • Mask Up: Fans over the age of 5, regardless of vaccination status, must wear face mask coverings over their nose and mouth while inside the venue.  Masks may be adjusted while actively eating or drinking. If a fan forgot their mask, there will be one available at the entrance of the venue.
  • WWU Badge: Current WWU students can show their "Green Badge" at the entrance to gain admittance into the venue showing they are in compliance with the WWU COVID-19 campus policy.

The proof of vaccination policy is only for indoor events held in Carver Gym (Volleyball/Basketball). Outdoor events at Harrington Field (soccer) and Viking Field (softball) require the masking policy with encouraged social distancing.

This policy will continue to be evaluated as federal, local and local guidelines are revised. Additional information on the WWU Visitor COVID-19 Campus Policy can be found online at WWU.edu and how it relates to other departments and WWU events.

WWU Athletics thanks all our fans for their continued support and understanding, as we all have the common goal to keep our community, campus and student-athletes safe.
