BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A trio of Western Washington University volleyball student-athletes have earned recognition on the 40th annual AVCA Division II All-America Team.
Junior outside hitter
Gabby Gunterman (Lake Stevens, WA) was selected as a First Team All-American, and junior middle
Olivia Fairchild (Olympia, WA/North Thurston) and sophomore outside hitter
Calley Heilborn (Auburn, WA/Auburn Riverside) were honorable mention honorees.
The high praise for Gunterman marks the fourth consecutive season a Viking has earned a first-team All-America honor from the AVCA. Gunterman is now a two-time All-American earning third-team honors in 2019.
In 28 matches this season (all starts), Gunterman has been a key figure in leading the Vikings to a 24-8 record and a trip to the NCAA II National Championships and Elite Eight Tournament. The outside hitter is averaging 3.27 kills per set (.238 hitting pct.), 3.44 digs per set and a team-leading 415.5 total points (3.88/set). She was a consensus First Team All-West Region selection, GNAC Player of the Year and a member of the San Bernardino West Regional All-Tournament Team.

Fairchild has sparked one of the top blocking front lines in the nation averaging 1.37 blocks per set to rank No. 7 in the nation. Additionally, the middle is averaging 2.49 kills per set on an efficient .329 hitting percentage. Fairchild was also a consensus First Team All-West Region selection, First Team All-GNAC award winner and earned a spot on the West Regional All-Tournament Team.
Heilborn added honorable mention All-America honors to her third-team selection during her redshirt freshman season in 2019. Also a unanimous First Team All-GNAC award winner, Heilborn has started all 28 matches this season while averaging 3.21 kills, 4.18 digs, 0.31 services aces and 3.84 points per set. She has tallied a double-double (kills/digs) in 20 of 28 matches during her sophomore season.

WWU carries a 19-match winning streak into the national quarterfinals after winning its fourth West Regional title over the weekend. The Vikings are the No. 2 national seed in the eight-team national tournament that will be played December 9-11 in Tampa, Florida. Western matches up against No. 7 seed Daemen (25-7) in the national quarterfinal Thursday at 2:30 pm ET/11:30 am PT in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center on the University of Tampa campus.
