SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's rowing team was in competition for the first time in over a full year on Saturday at the Falcon Regatta.
The Vikings fleet included a Varsity Eight and Varsity Four entry, racing against the University of Central Oklahoma and regatta host Seattle Pacific University on the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
"Overall I thought everyone rowed pretty well," said WWU head coach
John Fuchs. "We rowed well, but need to get faster, but it is early in the season. I thought SPU and UCO rowed well and fast."
With no fall team practices on the water and limited winter and spring training due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vikings were faced with a big challenge against two of the crews they raced in the 2019 NCAA Rowing Championships.
Western placed third in all four of its races against the Falcons and Bronchos, with a four and eight competing in each flight.
WWU's shortened spring schedule will continue on April 17 when the Vikings host Seattle Pacific in head-to-head action on Lake Samish.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE

UP NEXT FOR THE VIKINGS
WWU is scheduled to next be in action on Saturday, April 17 hosting Seattle Pacific in the Viking Regatta on Lake Samish. More details on the event will be posted closer to race day, but no fans will be permitted at the Camp Lutherwood Boathouse area.
NO FANS PERMITTED AT GNAC EVENTS
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference established protocol where no fans will be permitted at venues of member schools for the remainder of competitions this academic year (through May).
