UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Playing on the course that hosted the 2015 U.S. Open against primarily a Division I field, the Western Washington University men's golf team wrapped up another solid tournament performance Tuesday at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational.
The Vikings finished 14
th out of 15 teams in the tournament, but held a 26-stroke advantage over Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent Saint Martin's. Western was only one strike back of Gonzaga and five strokes behind tournament host Seattle U. WWU and Saint Martin's were the only non-NCAA Division I programs to compete in the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
WWU finished the Redhawk Invitational with a final round score of 15-over-par 303, finishing the tournament at 48-over-par 904. The University of San Francisco used a remarkable second round to hold off the University of Washington for a seven-strike victory finishing at 14-under-par 842.
Western junior
Aidan Thain (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish) continued his early-season surge leading the Vikings for the third consecutive tournament. The left-hander fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday, recording four birdies, 12 pars and four bogeys in the final round. He tied for 36
th place in the 88-player field at 6-over-par 220 (75-73-72).
Sophomore
Jordan Lee (Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep) tied for 50
th place (+11, 72-76-77=225) and junior captain
Devin Andrews (Kirkland, WA/Juanita) tied for 59
th (+15, 75-79-75=229). Freshmen
Nick Lasko (Clackamas, OR) and
Cody Oakes (Arlington, WA) rounded out the Vikings contingent tying for 68
th and 78
th respectively.
San Francisco senior Soren Lind won individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 5-under-par 209.

The Vikings wrap up the regular-season portion of the 2020-21 schedule next week (April 5-6) at the Mustang Intercollegiate hosted by Western New Mexico University at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona. The GNAC Championships will be held April 19-20 at The Home Course in DuPont.
