BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head women's soccer coach
Travis Connell has announced that
Tera Ziemer will join the program as a transfer from Texas A&M University.
Ziemer, an athletic 5-10 midfielder, will join the Vikings in the fall and will have two years of eligibility remaining. The Santa Rosa, California native is the fifth player that has formed the recruiting class that will debut on the pitch for Western during the 2021 championship season.
"Tera is a winner that brings valuable college experience to our roster," said
Connell, who owns a 261-72-28 (.762) record in 17 seasons leading the women's program at WWU. "She has played in big games and risen to the challenge during her youth and college career. We are excited to see how her unique blend of technical skill and game savvy impact our team."
In two years at Texas A&M, Ziemer appeared in 44 of 45 possible games, while making 24 starts for the Aggies. During her time in College Station she appeared in five NCAA Tournament matches, including scoring a goal in the first round of the 2019 championships in a 4-1 victory over Texas. She scored 12 career points for the Aggies, with four goals and four assists.
As a sophomore in 2019 she appeared in 21 of 22 matches, helping lead TAMU to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She scored four goals and added one assist.
As a freshman in 2018 she started 21 of 23 games, playing the full 90 in four matches. She tallied an assist in three consecutive matches vs. Auburn, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Her plays as a freshman earned her recognition from

A product of Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, California, Ziemer earned three varsity letters in soccer. She helped Montgomery to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) North Coast Section championship, including a championship in 2016 and runner-up finishes as a freshman and sophomore. She starred for the Mustang Soccer Club with a top 8 national finish in the ECNL in 2017. Additional prep awards include being tabbed a
TopDrawerSoccer All-California and All-West Region performer in 2016 and a Prep All-American in 2017.
Ziemer comes from a strong athletic background, with her father, Marcus, the longtime head men's soccer coach at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. Her mother, Trisha (Gretton), played soccer at Santa Clara University (1988-89, 91) and Sonoma State (1990). She also played one year at Texas A&M with her sister, Taylor in 2019, who also spent two seasons at the University of Virginia. Her great grandfather, Bob St. Clair, is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame after a long career with the San Francisco 49ers.

Here is a look five players that have committed to play for the Vikings beginning with the 2021 championship season in the fall. The tentative start of the fall season will be in early September with games against Adams State and Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.

ABOUT WWU SOCCER
The Western Washington University women's soccer program has risen to the top of the Division II ranks, with a string of eight consecutive appearances in the NCAA Championships. WWU has advanced to the NCAA II Final Four in four of the last seven seasons and played for the West Region championship in seven of the last eight seasons. The Vikings won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2016 with an undefeated 24-0-1 record, beating three-time defending national champion Grand Valley State 3-2 in the title game in Kansas City, Missouri. Including the national championship run, the Vikings put together a 39-game winning streak (4th-longest in NCAA II history) and a 40-game unbeaten streak. th season leading the program in 2019, and has led the Vikings to 10 trips to the NCAA Championships (8 straight) and 16 consecutive winning seasons. WWU finished the 2019 season with a 23-3-0 record, winning the West Regional title and played in the national championship game falling 1-0 to Grand Valley State.
WWU's 179 wins during the 2010s decade were the 6th-most out of 1,043 NCAA women's soccer programs.
