BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University Cheerleading program has announced its roster for the 2021-22 athletic seasons, with fourth-year head coach Jenny Johnson selecting 16 team members to the squad.
 
For the second consecutive season, tryouts for the cheer team were held virtually due to COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, with the prospective team members submitting their tryout routines digitally.
 
While the 2020-21 squad was not able to help lead cheers in person due to no fans permitted at any home event, the team remained active holding practices online and provided monthly ZOOM cheer clinics.
 
The 2021-22 squad is comprised of four freshmen, five sophomores, five juniors and two seniors. The roster includes nine returning team members, including team captains Ethan Huynh and Faith Morse.
 
Additional team leadership positions announced were Amirah Casey (Tumbling & Chant Guide), Kianna Miller (Stunt & Team Bonding Guide) and Hannah Harlin (Dance & Music Guide).
 
Johnson, along with third-year assistant coach Megan Newsted  and team captains led the virtual tryouts on ZOOM and the final roster was announced via social media on Sunday, April 17.
 
"I am very proud of how our team stuck together last year, becoming a true team, with so many challenges and I know they are really excited to get back to helping create a great environment at WWU events when fans return," said Johnson. "Our leadership did a great job directing the team and were very creative on social media to help promote WWU Athletics."
