BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team returns to action this week with a neutral-site game on Wednesday, April 28 vs. Western Oregon University.

The game will be played at Harmony Sports Complex in Vancouver, Washington, with kickoff set for 2:30 pm. Following GNAC guidelines for the season, fans will not be allowed inside the venue. Live stats will be provided and a possible webcast is in the works (won't know until the team arrives at the facility).

The Vikings (1-0-2) are coming off a thrilling 4-4 double-overtime tie against rival Seattle Pacific on Saturday. The game featured four second-half goals by the Vikings after trailing 2-0 at halftime.

The Vikings enter the match with the Wolves undefeated at 1-0-2, while Western Oregon heads into its spring season finale with a 1-6-0 overall mark.

The game vs. Western Oregon Wednesday is the fourth of eight scheduled spring contests that are being played as part of the 2020-21 championship season. All games during the spring season will count toward the all-time record and official statistics, but no GNAC of NCAA Division II Championships will be played.

WELCOME BACK TO CLARK COUNTY
The game Wednesday in Vancouver will be a homecoming of sorts for a few Vikings. Senior All-American midfielder Grace Eversaul is a product of Skyview High School and freshman defender Brooke Grosz is a native of nearby Hockinson. Freshman defender Chloe Unflat grew up just across the Columbia River in Portland and attended Wilson High School.

SERIES HISTORY VS. WESTERN OREGON
The Vikings holed a 37-6-1 all-time lead in the series vs. Western Oregon, including a current 7-game winning streak and 10-game unbeaten streak. The series dates back to the first game between the two programs on Sept. 13, 1997, a 6-0 WWU victory. This marks the third neutral-site contest between WWU and WOU, with both previous games played at the GNAC Championships in Tukwila (2012 & 2013). During the current 7-game winning streak dating back to the 2015 season, the Vikings have out-scored the Wolves 22-0.

UP NEXT FOR THE VIKINGS
After the game vs. Western Oregon, WWU will take some time off and scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, May 8 at Central Washington University. After opening the spring with three consecutive home games, the Vikings will play their next four contests on the road.

INSTANT CLASSIC VS. SPU
In a battle of two Northwest soccer heavyweights, WWU and Seattle Pacific played to a 4-4 double-overtime tie on Saturday, April 24 at Harrington Field in Bellingham. The Vikings trailed 2-0 at the half, but scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead midway through the second period. SPU scored goals from close quarters in the 75th and 78th minutes to retake a 4-3 lead. Then the Vikings found some last-second magic when freshman Zola Carbone scored with just 16 seconds remaining to tie the game 4-4. Estera Levinte scored a pair of goals for her second career brace, including a go-ahead score from 32-yards out that curled into the upper left quadrant from her left foot. The tie snapped a 13-game winning streak in the series for the Vikings, but WWU is undefeated at 17-0-4 vs. the Falcons over the last 21 meetings.

LEVINTE EARNS GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
Sophomore forward Estera Levinte has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for competition from April 19-25. The Bothell product recorded her second career multi-goal game in the 4-4 tie vs. Seattle Pacific on Saturday and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Saint Martin's earlier in the week. In 29 career contests with the Vikings, Levinte has scored seven goals and tallied six assists for 20 points. The weekly award is the second for Levinte, also earning the honor Oct. 21-21, 2019 during her freshman season.

IT HAD BEEN A WHILE
The April 3 spring opener vs. PLU ended a stretch of 476 days without the Vikings playing a counting game, dating back to the NCAA II National Championship game vs. Grand Valley State on December 14, 2019 (a 1-0 overtime loss). The Vikings played a pair of non-counting exhibition games last spring, February 29 and April 7, before all athletic competition was halted due to the pandemic.

BACK-TO-BACK GNAC CHAMPIONS
The Vikings are the two-time defending GNAC regular-season champions (2018 & 2019) and have raised the conference trophy seven times in the last eight seasons. WWU won five consecutive titles from 2012-16 and again in 2018 to add to the 2008 league championship. The Vikings have also won four of the seven conference tournament titles.
