SEATTLE, Wash. – Three school records and eight top-10 program marks made for a great start to UW Invitational by the Western Washington University Track & Field program on Friday.

The group of Kevin McDermott (1200m), Mark Daniels (400m), Landon Sturdevant (800m) and Mac Franks (1600m) took down the longest standing record in WWU indoor history in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:54.13 to finish second out of 10 teams. The Viking quartet bettered the previous mark of 9:55.00 set on March 9, 2007 by Sam Brancheau, Adam Neff, Erik Bies and Antony Tomsich while placing second at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston. Friday's record run was already the third for Franks to be part of this season, also etching his name in the WWU record book in the 800m (1:52.34) and the 3000m (8:14.59).

Freshman Hunter Flick set the WWU and GNAC record in the 60m Hurdles in a time of 8.07 seconds. After qualifying for the finals with program top-10 time of 8.34, Flick went even faster in the finals to place second behind Joseph Anderson of Long Beach State (8.05) and edge out GNAC foe Joshua Wagner of UAA (8.09). Flick bettered the previous school and conference record of 8.08 set by Travis Milbrandt in 2015.

For the second consecutive meet sophomore Raine Westfall set the WWU record in the weight throw with a toss of 15.25m/50-0.5. Westfall placed eighth out of 25 competitors and was second among NCAA Division II competitors.
