WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – Fueled by a 5-under-par round from senior Jordan Lee, the No. 7 nationally-ranked Western Washington University men's golf team holds the lead through the first round of the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.
The Vikings fired a team round of 1-over-par 281 on the par 70 Waikoloa Beach Course on Friday and will take a two-stroke lead over tournament host Hawai'i Hilo and Sonoma State into the final round.
Lee had a torrid first 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament recording six birdies and one bogey for his 5-under-par 65. Lee's six birdies were tied for the most amongst the 88-player field. The senior holds a two stroke lead for individual medalist honors heading into the final round, just ahead of Matthew Moss (-3, 67) of Cal State San Marcos.
Sophomore Ryan Ho and junior Drew Halili are also inside the top-20 tied for 16th place following rounds of 1-over-par 71. Halili's round was highlighted by an eagle on the Par 5 15th hole and Ho was steady with 15 pars and a birdie in his round.
Saturday's final round begins with a 7:30 am shotgun start (Hawai'i time) with the Vikings teeing off holes 1-2-3-4 and paired with tournament host Hawai'i Hilo, Sonoma State and Colorado-Colorado Springs.
