WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Western Washington University men's golf team entered its final round of the fall season in the lead at the Southwest Airlines Dennis Rose Intercollegiate, but slipped to finish in a tie for seventh place in the two-day tournament held Friday-Saturday at the Waikoloa Beach Course and hosted by the University of Hawai'i Hilo.
The Vikings shot a team score of 13-over-par 293 in Saturday's second round, after carding a 1-over-par 281 on Friday on the par 70 layout. Cal State San Marcos and Colorado-Colorado Springs each climbed the leaderboard in the final round to earn tie for the top spot in the 16-team tournament.
WWU senior Jordan Lee finished at even-par 140 (65-75) to earn a top-10 finish in the 88-player field in ninth place. Lee led the field playing the par 3 holes at 3-under-par and tied for ninth with seven birdies.
Sophomore Ryan Ho completed his solid fall season inside the top 20 tying for 19th place at 3-over-par 143. Sophomore Seth King carded the Vikings lowest final round score at 1-over-par 71 featuring three birdies.
"The fall season has come to an end and it showed that we have a lot of work to accomplish over the offseason," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "Our region is strong and these two events showed what can happen if we don't bring our best game to the course for each round. Hopefully a little break and reset this fall and winter will give us time to gain our confidence back."
Nathan Jetton of Stanislaus State earned individual medalist honors finishing at 5-under-par 135 with rounds of 2-under-par 68 and 3-under-par 67. Matthew Moses of Cal State San Marcos earned runner-up honors two strokes back at 3-under-par 137 (67-70).
The Vikings four-tournament fall season featured a strong start placing second at the Saint Martin's Invitational and winning the WWU Invitational. The trip to Hawai'i ended the fall season placing 13th at the HPU Sharks Shootout and tied for seventh at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate. The Vikings entered the final week of the season ranked No. 7 in the Golf Coaches Association of America Division II Poll and No. 4 in the Golfstat.com Relative Team Rankings.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 23 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season, which includes this season after earning the automatic bid from winning the GNAC Championships. WWU placed 3rd at the 2013 national championship for the highest finish in program history. The program has produced 16 NCAA All-Americans and has won 10 of 14 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008, including the 2022 title. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in nine of 14 tournaments with Aidan Thain joining the long list of conference champions in 2022 and nine GNAC Player of the Year awards.
