ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The nationally-ranked Western Washington University cross country teams competed Saturday at the Lewis Crossover with the men placing third and the women seventh.
The No. 26 nationally-ranked WWU men's squad placed third out of 19 teams with a team score of 82, with the top five scoring runners all placing in the top 25 in the 213-runner field.
Sophomore Kevin McDermott led the way for the Vikings placing 7th on the 8K course in a personal-best time of 24:17.9. Sophomore Jeret Gillingham (16th, 24:28.9), sophomore Ryan Clough (19th, 24:35.5), freshman Jered Alderfer (21st, 24:37.2) and junior Andrew Oslin (22nd, 24:37.4) made up the Vikings top five for the team score of 82.

The women's team finished seventh with 210 team points and were led by a 23rd-place showing by sophomore Sophie Wright (22:27.0) and 28th-place finish by sophomore Mia Crocker (22:35.7). Sophomore Meaera Shannon also finished in the top 50 in the 186 competitor field finishing in 22:51.3 for 39th place.
WWU entered the race ranked No. 19 nationally and finished just behind six teams all ranked nationally.
