BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A trio of Western Washington University senior volleyball players earned All-West Region honors from the AVCA and D2CCA for the 2022 season.
Senior middle Chloe Roetcisoender was a consensus First Team All-West Region selection following a dominating senior season. Senior outside hitter Calley Heilborn earned first-team honors from the AVCA and a second-team award from D2CCA. Senior setter Malia Aleaga was an honorable mention All-Region pick by the AVCA.
This marks the fifth consecutive season that at least three WWU players have been selected to at least one of the All-West Region teams and the ninth time in the last 10 seasons to have at least two players earn First Team AVCA All-West Region honors.
Roetcisoender (Duvall, WA/Cedar Park Christian) capped her collegiate career with a pair of All-West Region awards in addition to earning First Team All-GNAC honors. The middle started all 27 matches for the Vikings averaging 1.29 blocks per set to rank in the top five nationally. Roetcisoender also averaged 2.60 kills per set on a .381 hitting percentage. She finished her WWU career with 441 total blocks to rank fifth in program history and third with 1.30 blocks per set.
Heilborn (Auburn, WA/Auburn Riverside) was a first-team pick by the AVCA and a second-team selection by D2CCA. The outside hitter put together a well-rounded senior season ranking as the only player in the GNAC to rank in the top 10 in the conference in both kills per set (5th, 3.16) and digs pet set (8th, 3.51). Heilborn also led WWU with 33 service aces, 384.0 total points (3.84 per set) and 13 double-doubles. During four collegiate seasons Heilborn left her mark in the WWU record book ranking seventh in total digs (1,401), 10th in kills (1,171), 10th in total points (1,395.5) and 20th in service aces (106) in 98 career matches. Heilborn also ended her career as the WWU all-time leader with 11 GNAC Player of the Week awards.
Aleaga (Burien, WA/Kennedy) was an honorable mention All-West Region award winner from the AVCA, in addition to earning First Team All-GNAC honors. During her final collegiate season Aleaga averaged 10.31 assists per set to rank second in the GNAC, third in the West Region and 35th in the nation. During her collegiate career Aleaga finished with 3,593 assists to rank fourth in WWU and 16th in GNAC history.
WWU completed the 2022 season with a 21-6 record, advancing to the NCAA Championships West Regional tournament for the 10th consecutive season and the 16th time in program history. The Vikings placed second in the GNAC with a 16-2 league record and hosted the NCAA West Regional Championships in Carver Gym for the second time in program history.
Alaska Anchorage senior right side hitter Eve Stephens was a consensus West Region Player of the Year selection. Cal State LA outside hitter Iane Henke was the AVCA West Region Freshman of the Year and Juan Figueroa of Cal State LA earned the West Region Coach of the Year award.
AVCA ALL-WEST REGION TEAM
Here is a look at the AVCA All-West Region team as voted on by coaches in the West Region. Players named to All-Region teams are eligible for selection to the AVCA Division II All-America teams, which will be announced December 1 prior to the NCAA II National Championships Elite Eight in Seattle:

The WWU Volleyball program is in its 51st season as a varsity intercollegiate sport in 2022, rising to an elite level by advancing to the NCAA Division II Championships in each of the last 10 seasons and 16 of the last 21 dating back to the 2001 season. The program has recorded 1,012 all-time wins (1012-578-7/.635). The winner of 11 Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the Vikings have four of the last five GNAC titles with a perfect 19-1 record in 2017, perfect 20-0 mark in 2018, an 18-2 league record in 2019 and clinched the four-peat with a 17-1 record in 2021. Led by 23rd-year head coach Diane Flick-Williams (506-123/.805) the Vikings have posted a 257-53 record over the last 11 seasons (.831 winning percentage) and played in the NCAA II West Region championship match five out of the last seven seasons (2015-21), winning titles in 2015, 2018 and 2021 (also 2007). WWU played for the NCAA II national championship in 2007 and 2018, both national runner-up finishes, and have advanced to the NCAA Final Four in three of the past six seasons (2015, 2018, 2021).
