Three Vikings Earn All-America Awards

Tera Ziemer (1st Team) and Estera Levinte (2nd Team) earn honors from United Soccer Coaches, Morgan Manalili selected as third-team All-American by D2CCA

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Three players from the 2022 Western Washington University women's soccer national championship team have been selected as All-Americans.
 
Here is a listing of WWU's All-American selections for the 2022 season: Senior midfielder Tera Ziemer (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery/Texas A&M) led the way as a First Team United Soccer Coaches All-American and was also named the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year by the association. Ziemer was a Second Team All-American as a junior in 2021. Ziemer started all 25 games during the national championship season, tallying 16 points with six goals and four assists. Ziemer becomes the sixth player in program history to earn First Team All-America honors from the coaches association, and the first since forward Karli White and goalkeeper Natalie Dierickx in 2019.

Junior forward Estera Levinte (Bothell, WA) earned Second Team All-America honors finishing with seven goals and eight assists while appearing in all 25 games. Levinte was also a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection and a consensus First Team All-West Region player. The forward capped a season full of accolades by being selected as the NCAA Championships Most Outstanding Player.

Freshman midfielder Morgan Manalili (Shoreline, WA/Shorewood) was the Vikings lone selection to the D2CCA All-America team voted on by College Sports Communicators across the country. Manalili led the Vikings in scoring during her freshman campaign with 10 goals and five assists (25 points). She also paced the team with six game-winning goals to rank amongst the national leaders. In addition to earning All-West Region honors, Manalili cleaned up on GNAC awards as a first-team selection, the conference Freshman of the Year and the GNAC Tournament MVP. Manalili was one of only three freshman players on the 39-player D2CCA All-America team, joined by Hawai'i Hilo goalkeeper Lolo Retsky (third team) and West Chester midfielder Faith Matter (second team).

The Vikings finished the 2022 season with a 19-2-4 record, winning the program's second national championship in the last six seasons (also 2016) and played in the West Regional Championship game for the seventh consecutive season.

ABOUT WWU SOCCER
The Western Washington University women's soccer program has risen to the top of the Division II ranks, with a string of 10 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Championships and a pair of national championships in 2016 and 2022. WWU has advanced to the NCAA II Final Four in five of the last nine seasons and played for the West Region championship in nine of the last 10 seasons (seven consecutive). The Vikings won the 2022 title with a 2-1 win over No. 1 nationally-ranked West Chester, played for the 2019 national title and won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2016 with an undefeated 24-0-1 record, beating three-time defending national champion Grand Valley State 3-2 in the title game in Kansas City, Missouri. The program has claimed eight of the last 10 Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season titles (2022 Champions) and won five of the last seven GNAC Tournament titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022). Head coach Travis Connell is in his 20th season leading the program in 2022 (27th overall at WWU) and has led the Vikings to 12 trips to the NCAA Championships (10 straight) and 19 consecutive winning seasons. He picked up his 400th career victory October 16, 2021 vs. Simon Fraser. Over the last eight seasons (since 2015), the Vikings have combined for a 142-18-13 record (.858 winning pct.).
