SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University Track & Field program continues to rewrite the program record book with five more top-10 marks achieved Friday during the first day of the Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor.
The record book additions from Friday's competition brings the total of top-10 marks during the indoor season to 37 by the men's and women's squad.
Junior
Mac Franks bettered his school record time in the 3000m running 8:09.40 for the 4th-best time in GNAC history. He finished 27th in a very deep field of 80 runners in the event and was second among non-NCAA II competitors. Franks has also set the WWU indoor record in the 800m (1:51.47) and ran the last leg of the record-breaking DMR (9:50.83).
Sophomore
Kevin McDermott also continued his assault on the WWU record book running 14:26.03 in for the 2nd-fastest indoor 5000m in program history and the No. 7 mark in GNAC history.
Senior
Beau Sheeran equaled his indoor PR placing 2nd in the high jump by clearing 2.01m/6-7 to tie for the 4th-best mark in program history.
A pair of PR and top-10 marks were also achieved in the women's weight throw, with
Mattison Crook notching the 4th-best mark in WWU history at 14.73m/48-4 and
Katie Potts remaining at No. 6 in the record book with a throw of 13.79m/45-3.
Junior
Aliyah Dawkins placed 2nd in the high jump clearing 1.66m/5-5.25 and was 14th in the 60m hurdles just missing a PR in 9.14.
