For Black History month in 2022, we are sharing the stories of our current student-athletes and what Black History Month means to them through a social media campaign.

Shelton Diggs - Podcast BHM
Listen to a Viking Voices Podcast with WWU men's basketball legend Shelton Diggs, a star player for the Vikings from 1998-2002 that helped lead the Vikings to its first NCAA II Final Four in 2001. Diggs is currently the head boys basketball coach at Long Beach Poly and is also a personal assistant to Snoop Dogg.
Black History Month - Savannah Smith
Savannah Smith was a star for WWU Track & Field from 2016-19 and is listed in the top five in six different events. Smith holds the No. 2 all-time mark in both the outdoor (24.78) and indoor (25.07) 200m.

John White - Black History Month
John White set the school triple jump record in 1973 with a leap of 47-11 ½, a mark that is still third-best in program history nearly 50 years later

Kiana Gandy - Black History Month Podcast
Listen to a Viking Voices podcast with Kiana Gandy, who scored over 1,000 points during her career with the Vikings from 2013-17. Following graduation from WWU with a degree in psychology, Gandy has pursued a passion and career in mentoring children experiencing adjustment disorders and trauma, as well as Black millennial's self-directed healing and growth.
Jeffrey Parker - Black History Month
Jeffrey Parker had a legendary four-year career with the Vikings, leaving Bellingham as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,867 career points. In 121 career games, Parker averaged 15.4 points per game and made 277 3-pointers to rank second-best in WWU history.
Kayleigh Harper Black History Month
Kayleigh Harper etched her name in the WWU Volleyball and GNAC record books after an All-American career from 2015-19. The Oak Harbor native was a three-time AVCA All-American and four-time First Team All-GNAC selection,  setting WWU and GNAC all-time records with 597.0 total blocks and a .373 career hitting percentage. She lead WWU to the NCAA Championships in each year she participated, including a national semifinal appearance in 2015 and the national final in 2018.
