Mac Franks, Calahan Warren and Drew Weber record top three times in 1500m in program history

AZUSA, Calif. – A trio of Western Washington University men's distance runners recorded a historic performance Friday evening in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
Mac Franks (3:42.22), Calahan Warren (3:43.00) and Drew Weber (3:45.77) ran the three fastest times in program history in the event, which also are in the top eight in GNAC history. Franks led the group with an impressive PR in the event by over five seconds to move into the No. 4 spot in Great Northwest Athletic Conference history. Warren previously held the record of 3:44.82 set last season at the WWU Invitational in 2021 and is now No. 5 in GNAC history. Weber continues this rise in the record books with the No. 3 time in WWU and No. 9 in GNAC history.
 
Franks has now set the 1500m and steeplechase records during the current outdoor season and set the 800m, Mile, 3,000m and DMR records during his All-American indoor campaign.
 
The Viking men were not the only ones burning up the 1500m on Friday, with Mia Crocker and Sophie Wright also recording top-10 times at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Crocker tied for the 5th-fastest time in WWU outdoor history in 4:32.34 and Wright was close behind in 4:32.59 for the No. 7 time in program history.
 
Additional highlights from Friday's competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational included the following:
 
  • Kacey Provo: Set outdoor PR tying for 4th place in the open pole vault clearing 4.63m/15-2.25.
  • Katie Potts: Placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 42.12m/138-2…also 29th in shot put (12.29m/40-4).
  • Jaydon Tryon: Placed 12th in javelin with throw of 52.84m/173-4.
  • Lainnie Lyamba: Set PR in long jump with mark of 5.16m/16-11.25.
  • Beau Sheeran: Tied for 14th in men's invitational high jump clearing 1.98m/6-6.
  • Koby Okezie: 25th out of 56 runners in the 110m Hurdles (14.97)…also 39th in 400m Hurdles in 56.33.
  • Kaleb Korta: Set PR in 1500m in 3:55.86 to complete Friday's competition.
  • Jessica Neal: Tied for 16th in High Jump Invitational clearing season-best 1.63m/5-4.25.
