BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's rowing team is listed No. 3 in the West Region and No. 5 in the Pocock CRCA NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
The Vikings have had a successful start to the season winning three Great Northwest Athletic Conference Crew of the Week Awards following each of the three competitions so far in 2022.
WWU remained at No. 5 in the Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll for the third consecutive week, listed behind No. 1 Mercyhurst, No. 2 Embry Riddle (FL), No. 3 Central Oklahoma and No. 4 Seattle Pacific. All four GNAC rowing programs are listed in the national rankings with Cal Poly Humboldt at No. 7.
In the second edition of the NCAA II Regional Rankings, Western is No. 3 behind Central Oklahoma and Cal Poly Humboldt in the West Region. The West Regional Advisory Committee has the WWU Varsity Four ranked first in the region and the Varsity Eight No. 4. The regional rankings help determine the six-team national championships that will be held May 27-29 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
The No. 5 nationally-ranked Vikings are off for the second consecutive weekend continuing to prepare for the WIRA Championships April 30-May 1 on Lake Natoma out outside of Sacramento. The eight-time national champions are also scheduled to compete in the Opening Day Regatta May 7 on Montlake Cut in Seattle and on May 14 at the GNAC Championships on Dexter Lake in Dexter, Oregon outside of Eugene.

Led by head coach
John Fuchs (24th season), WWU Rowing is one of the elite collegiate rowing programs in the country, having won eight NCAA Division II National Championships. The Vikings won the 2017 NCAA II title, placed 2nd in 2018 and 3rd in 2019. WWU has competed in the NCAA Championships in 18 of the last 21 seasons, taking home the gold (8 times) or silver (4 times) medal 12 times in the 19 years the NCAA Division II team title has been awarded.
