Vikings Complete Successful Trip at CWU

Vikings record five program top-10 marks at CWU Wildcat Invitational

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Led by a pair of No. 2 performances in program history by Katie Potts and Raine Westfall, the Western Washington University Track & Field program had another successful day of competition Saturday at the CWU Wildcat Invitational.
 
The Vikings recorded five program top-10 marks on Saturday at the CWU Recreation Sports Complex, with two each by men's and women's field athletes and one by the men's 4x100 relay team. Saturday's competition served as a preview of the 2022 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held at the same venue May 13-14.
 
Potts finished 2nd in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 13.46m/44-2 to move up to No. 2 in WWU history. Westfall improved her No. 2 mark in program history winning the hammer throw with a mark of 49.86m/163-7.
 
Aliyah Dawkins tied for 1st place in the high jump clearing 1.58m/5-2.25 and also placed 2nd in the long jump (5.60m/18-4.5). Brittany Aquino won the 5000m in 19:19.41 and Lainnie Lyamba turned in a pair of third-place performances in the long jump (PR - 5.57m/18-3.25) and triple jump (10.63m/34-10.5). Ellensburg native Caitlyn Cheney placed 5th in the 200m in a PR time of 26.58 and Shawnee Konrad was 6th in the pole vault clearing a personal-best 3.37m/11-0.75.
 
The men's squad was led by Ethan Sterkel placing 2nd in the long jump with a personal-best outdoor mark of 7.12m/23-4.5 for the No. jump in WWU history. Beau Sheeran placed 2nd in the high jump with his best mark as a Viking during the outdoor season clearing 2.03m/6-8 to tie for 10th in program history.
 
The men's 4x100 relay team of Ryan Greenwalt, Brian Le, Mark Daniels and Noah Johnson placed 2nd in 42.03 to tie for the 8th-fastest mark in the WWU outdoor record book.
 
The men's 800m trio of Will Henry (1:53.87), Jonah Bloom (1:54.85) and Brock Knowles (1:55.56) placed 1-2-3 while showcasing the program depth in the event with each recording a personal-best time.
 
Jaydon Tryon added an event win in the javelin with a top mark of 56.22m/184-5 and Ben Malquist was 2nd in the shot put with a season-best throw of 15.76m/51-8.5.
