STOCKTON, Calif. – The Western Washington University women's golf team wrapped up its 2021-22 season Wednesday with the final round of the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships at Brookside Country Club.
The Vikings placed 12th in the 12-team field, recording a three-round score of 60-over-par 924. After opening the tournament Monday with one of its lowest team scores of the season (+16, 304), the Vikings slipped on the leaderboard each of final two rounds to place 12th.
The 2021-22 season was filled with success, which included a second consecutive GNAC team title, five All-GNAC selections, four GNAC academic selections and six GNAC Player of the Week awards.
Sophomore Claire Moon led the Vikings tying for 50th in the 60-player field at 16-over-par 232. Moon played her final 36 holes at 9-over-par with a 3-over-par 75 in Wednesday's final round.
GNAC individual medalist Elise Sumner tied for 59th place (+19, 77-79-79=235) and senior Sarah Shea shot consecutive 4-over-par rounds of 76 to finish 61st (+20, 84-76-76=236).
Sophomore Dani Bailey had a great start to the three-round tournament with a career-low even-par 72, but fired back-to-back rounds of 79 and 87 to place 63rd. GNAC co-Player of the Year Megan Billeter placed 64th at 24-over-par 240.
Dallas Baptist won the regional team title at even-par 864 and will be joined by Colorado Christian, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M at the national championship tournament May 10-14 at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia.
Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian won individual medalist honors firing three consecutive under-par rounds for a three-stroke victory at 9-under-par 207 (68-69-70=207).

The WWU women's golf team is in its 29th season as an intercollegiate sport in 2021-22. WWU has a rich history on the links, winning the first five GNAC Championships beginning in 2011 and returned to the podium with back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. WWU made its 12th appearance in the NCAA II West Regional Championships in 2022 after earning the GNAC's automatic bid. WWU has also made six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in nine of the 11 years it has been awarded, including 2020-21 Player of the Year Elise Sumner and 2021-22 award winner Megan Billeter. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has had nine All-Americans.
