VANCOUVER, B.C.  – The Western Washington University men's soccer team closed out its perfect preseason schedule with a 1-0 shutout road victory over the University of British Columbia Saturday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium.

WWU completed its three-match exhibition schedule with a 3-0 record, adding today's 1-0 blanking at UBC to home cross-border friendly victories over Fraser Valley (3-1) and Trinity Western (4-1).

Picked to finish second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in the preseason coaches' poll, the Vikings feature a talented group of 16 returning letterwinners and 13 newcomers. The 19-match regular-schedule begins next week with a pair of home games at Harrington Field in Bellingham.

The Vikings scored Saturday's lone goal in the 36th minute when sophomore Andrew Rotter (Auburn, WA/Auburn Mountainview/Saint Mary's College) found the back of the net on an assist from senior defender Teagan Eldridge (Enumclaw, WA).

Senior goalkeeper Patrick Restum (Okemos, MI/Northern Michigan) recorded the clean sheet while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Vikings.

"Today was a good result against a quality opponent on the road to wrap up our preseason schedule," said 10th-year head coach Greg Brisbon. "I am proud of the ways the team has progressed over these past two weeks. We will have very difficult matches to start the season, but we are ready to get the season started next week at Harrington Field."

The Vikings officially open the 2022 season on Thursday hosting Sonoma State University with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm at Harrington Field.

Note: UBC kept only official substitutions and goal scoring stats for this preseason exhibition match.
