Vikings Record 15 Program Top-10 Marks in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – Five top-10 performances in program history by 800m runners highlighted several great performances by the Western Washington University Track & Field team Saturday at the UW Indoor Preview at Dempsey Indoor.
 
The Vikings men's and women's team combined to record 15 top-10 program marks, with the 800 meter runners taking the spotlight.
 
Junior Marian Ledesma placed 12th out of 33 runners, and was second among non-Division 1 or pro runners, turning in a time of 2:14.40 to better her time from earlier this season remaining at No. 2 in WWU history. Sophomore Sophie Wright clocked an indoor PR time of 2:18.14 to rank No. 8 in program history.
 
Sophomore Will Henry recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark finishing fourth out of 15 runners in a personal-best time of 1:52.08 to rank No. 3 in WWU history. Freshman Jonah Bloom set a PR for the second consecutive meet in 1:53.82 to remain at No. 6 in program history and freshman Connor Palmen moved into the No. 7 spot with a 1:54.19.
 
A pair of men's sprinters recorded top-10 times in the 60m dash, led by sophomore Tyrone Woodard qualifying for the finals in the event with a time of 6.96 seconds to rank tied for third in WWU history. Woodard would go on to finish seventh in the finals. Junior Noah Johnson ran a personal-best time of 7.01 to remain at No. 7 in the WWU indoor record book.
 
In the women's mile, Wright and sophomore Mia Crocker both earned top-10 times. Wright clocked 5:01.57 to move into the No. 5 spot in program history and Crocker finished in 5:03.07 for the No. 6 spot.
 
In the field events junior Jessica Neal led the way recording an indoor personal-best in the high jump clearing 1.65m/5-5 to tie for fourth out of 23 competitors, moving up to No. 6 in WWU history.
 
Junior Matty Lagerwey placed fifth in the long jump also recorded an indoor PR finishing fifth out of 34 competitors with a leap of 5.60m/18-4.5.
 
Here are additional top highlights by the Vikings in Saturday's competition in Seattle:
 
  • Drew Weber: Won his heat in the 1000m with a time of 2:27.01, the fastest time by a Viking during the TFRRS era (since 2009) in the non-championship distance event.
  • Andrew Oslin: Placed 42nd in the 3000m with a personal-best time of 8:28.61 to rank No. 8 in WWU history.
  • Miller Campbell: Finished 4th in the weight throw with a toss of 16.50m/54-1.75 to remain at No. 5 in WWU history with a second consecutive meet setting a PR.
  • Kaleb Korta: Set a PR in the mile in 4:19.90, bettering his previous time of 4:21.02 set last February at the WSU Open.
  • Caitlyn Cheney: Ran a personal-best time of 26.00 in the 200m to tie for 9th-best in WWU history…Cheney is off to a solid start to her sophomore season running the third-best 60m time in program history in 7.82 at the season-opening Spokane Invitational (ran 7.86 in 60m today at UW Preview).
  • Mara Parks: Freshman placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 11.82m/38-9.5 to move into the No. 8 spot in WWU indoor history.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE VIKINGS
The UW Preview served as the first of five regular-season indoor competitions, with the GNAC Championships held February 20-21 at The Podium in Spokane.
