WWU to Recognize WECU for Continued Support

WWU will hold special recognition for WECU and their support of athletics and the university

1/31/2023 2:27:00 PM

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University will hold its second WECU Night of the 2022-23 basketball season this Thursday when the nationally-ranked Viking women's basketball team hosts Northwest Nazarene at 7 pm on WECU Court in Carver Gym.

The first 200 fans that show their WECU credit or debit card at the Carver Gym Box Office will receive free admission to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference showdown between the Vikings and Nighthawks.

The game will also serve as a recognition of all the support WECU has given to Western Washington University over the years. WECU has been a tremendous partner with WWU over the years, making an immense impact on the University and the campus community. WECU will be recognized for its recent half-million dollar commitment to WWU.

"We are pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with Western Washington University," said Jennifer Kutcher, President, and CEO of WECU. "A significant portion of WECU's support focuses on providing student scholarships and event sponsorships that provide direct support of programs and activities. Together we will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many students, our members, and the communities we serve."

The gift will benefit the entire university through scholarship support providing critical resources that will lessen the financial burden of attending college for students. WECU is also a big supporter of WWU Athletics with its name on the court inside Carver Gymnasium and through scholarships for student-athletes.

In addition to the sponsorship of WECU Court, WECU helps support WWU's annual scholarship luncheons, the Great Puzzle Hunt and Back 2 Bellingham this spring.

"We want to thank WECU for all the support it provides Western, not only in Athletics, but across campus," said WWU Director of Athletics Steve Card. "Our student-athletes get the chance to play and train in a first-class facility in Carver Gym, and WECU Court is at the center of it all. From all of us in WWU Athletics, we can't thank WECU enough for the continued support of our programs and student-athletes."
