WAIMEA, Hawai'i – The Western Washington University men's golf team wrapped up play at the HPU Sharks Shootout on Tuesday placing 16th with the two-day, 54-hole tournament played at Mauna Lani Golf Course.
The Vikings showed a two-stroke improvement from Monday's second round, and five-stroke improvement from the first round, firing a 13-over-par 301 on Tuesday. WWU was unable to move up the leaderboard on the final day of the tournament in the 17-team field.
Freshman
Nathan Yocam fired a final-round score of 1-over-par 73 to lead the Vikings tying for 39th place in the 92-player field. Yocam finished the tournament at 7-over-par 223 with junior
Seth King one stroke back tying for 43rd place at 8-over-par 224. Sophomore
Peter Dionne-Yahr fired a 2-over-par 74 in the final round to tie for 64th spot overall (+14, 230).
Texas-Permian Basin won the tournament team title at 11-under-par 286, playing the final 36 holes at a blistering 14-under-par as a team. Colorado Christian was eight strokes back to earn runner-up team honors at 3-under-par 861.
Francis Bautista of Cal State Dominguez Hills and Colin Huang of Sonoma State both finished at 9-under-par 207 to tie for tournament individual medalist honors.
The Vikings remain in Hawai'i to play in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Friday and Saturday at Hapuna Golf Course in Waimea. The two-day tournament will feature a 36-hole format with 18 holes each day. Live scoring will be available through GolfStat with a direct link at
