VIkings Off to Good Start During Busy Weekend

WWU opens competition at Husky Classic and Whitworth Invitational

SEATTLE & SPOKANE, Wash. – The Western Washington University Track & Field team opened its weekend full of competition with several student-athletes competing at the Husky Classic and Whitworth Invitational.
 
Friday's performances in Seattle and Spokane were highlighted by six program top-10 marks, led by the No. 2 time in WWU indoor history in the 5000m by junior Andrew Oslin (14:25.96) and the No. 5 time in the 200m by sophomore Nolan Mickenham (22.14).
 
Sophomore George Karamitsos bettered his No. 4 mark in WWU history in the 5000m clocking 14:31.11, finishing just behind Oslin in a deep field at the Husky Classic. Oslin placed 55th and Karamitsos 60th out of 76 runners.
 
A pair of men's heavy throwers both recorded PR marks in the weight throw, with sophomore Miller Campbell placing 4th with a throw of 17.48m/57-4.25 to move up to No. 3 in WWU history. Freshman Angelo Ramos placed 6th also notching a PR of 15.57m/51-1 to remain at No. 7 in program history.
 
Sophomore sprinter Caitlyn Cheney equaled her PR in the 200m, placing 4th out of 17 runners with a time of 26.00 seconds.
 
At the Whitworth Invitational at The Podium in Spokane, a trio of women's distance runners competed in the 5000m. Freshman Alanna Parker led the group finishing 5th in 18:40.72, freshman Ashley Reeck was 7th in 18:55.18 and freshman Alexis Parker was 8th in 18:59.26. The Parker twins are Spokane natives having standout prep careers at Mead High School.
 
The Vikings are back in action Saturday at both the Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle and the Whitworth Invitational at The Podium in Spokane. Drew Weber and Will Henry will represent WWU at the  David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston racing in the mile. Live results can be followed online at wwuvikings.com/TF_Live.
