BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University Cheer team will compete at the national level for the first time in program history at the USA Collegiate Championships on February 25 in Anaheim, California.

WWU Cheer will be competing in the Game Day division in three categories, with the team forming three separate teams at the national competition. The Vikings will match up against other college programs being evaluated in the fight song, band chant and situational cheer categories.

A key part of WWU's gameday atmosphere at athletic and campus events, this competition will showcase the skill, hard work and commitment the WWU Cheer program has displayed. The Vikings will get the chance to compete against teams from all over the nation, including local universities Washington State, Portland State, Idaho and Western Oregon.

"Our team is very excited to take the mat together, for the first time at the national level," said team co-captain Ethan Huynh. "Every year, our program just keeps getting better and without a doubt, this team holds the most talent we have ever seen in program history. I am so excited to end my senior year with a bang."

Prior to leaving for California, the WWU Cheer team will celebrate four seniors prior to Saturday's women's basketball game vs. Seattle Pacific. The team will hold a nationals showcase starting at 5:30 pm in Gym C in Carver Gymnasium, with doors opening at 5:20 pm and the box office opening at 5 pm.
