SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's distance medley relay set a program record competing at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet Friday evening at Dempsey Indoor.
The Viking foursome of sophomore
Sophie Wright (1200m), freshman
Anna Miller (400m), sophomore
Mia Crocker (800m) and sophomore
Ila Davis (1600m) clocked a program-best 11:40.67 to finish behind Division I teams Stanford (10:49.30) and Washington State (11:15.35). WWU's time is also the fastest in the GNAC this season, bettering the 11:41.23 by Simon Fraser set earlier this month in Boston.
Friday's record-breaking mark bettered the previous school record set in 2010 by Courtney Olsen, Megan O'Connell, Rachael Johnson and Sarah Porter with a time of 11:46.27. Wright, sophomore
Caitlyn Cheney, Crocker and Davis ran 11:47.47 earlier this season at the UW Invitational, a mark that is now No. 3 in program history.
The school-record time likely moves the Vikings into the top 15 in the nation, with the top 12 selected for indoor nationals that will be held March 10-11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
WWU is scheduled to have one more entry in the Ken Shannon Last Chance meet Saturday with junior
Drew Weber looking to improve his season-best time of 1:50.36 that currently ranks No. 13 in the nation.
