BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Following a successful weekend of competition at the PLU Open, the Western Washington University Track & Field nearly made it a clean sweep of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference weekly awards.

WWU student-athletes Ila Davis (Steeplechase), Katie Potts (Discus) and Gabe Menicke (Long Jump) won three of the four GNAC weekly awards with event wins at Saturday's PLU Open.

Davis became a two-time winner of the GNAC weekly award during her career, recording an impressive early-season national leading time in the steeplechase on Saturday. Davis, a three-time All-GNAC award winner at the conference indoor meet in February, won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:36.03 to grab the early national lead with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Davis qualified for outdoor nationals in the event last season placing 13th, with her time Saturday just missing her PR of 10:31.55 winning the GNAC title last spring.

Potts won the discus competition with a mark of 42.17m/138-4 to move up to No. 5 nationally during the early part of the outdoor season. Potts has placed 2nd at each of the last two GNAC Outdoor Championships to earn All-Conference honors.

Menicke won the long jump at the PLU Open with a leap of 6.50m/21-4, a mark that is currently second-best in the conference this season. The freshman saw limited competition during the indoor season, but earned All-GNAC honors placing 2nd in the triple jump at the conference championships with a leap of 14.04m/46-0.75.
