TURLOCK, Calif. – The Western Washington University men's golf team put the finishing touches on a wire-to-wire 10-stroke team victory at the 16-team Hanny Stanislaus Invitational Tuesday at Turlock Golf & Country Club.

The Vikings, ranked No. 24 in the most recent Golfstat Relative Team Ranking for NCAA Division II, tamed a tough field that included 10 top-50 teams, for a 10-stroke win over GNAC rival Simon Fraser. WWU finished the three-round tournament at 7-over-par 871, with SFU edging Chico State for second place at 17-over-par 881.

WWU opened the tournament with a 10-under-par 278 and held off any teams looking to move into the top spot on the leaderboard in the two-day tournament in Turlock, California. Western made it back-to-back wins in Turlock also winning the 2022 edition of the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational with a team score of 2-over-par 866.

The tournament victory was the second this season for the Vikings, also winning the WWU Invitational September 26-27 at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

"Today was a great day for the guys! We defended our title against a difficult field and got the team and individual win." said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "I amvVery proud of the guys for playing well in tough conditions with the lead."

Senior Jordan Lee continued his All-America campaign with his second career tournament victory finishing at 4-under-par 212 (70-72-70) for a two-stroke victory over Luke Dugger of Holy Names. Lee has now recorded 14 of 18 rounds this season at or under par. Amongst the 96-player field, Lee tied for second with 12 birdies and was tops in the field playing the tough par four holes at 2-under-par. Lee also won the Concordia Invitational in his third collegiate tournament as a freshman in 2018-19.

"This has been a long time coming for Jordan, I'm so happy for him especially against a strong field and on such a demanding course. He stayed patient, played his game and showed he's one of the best in the country," said Bennett.

Sophomore Conrad Brown tied for 3rd finishing at even-par 216 (68-73-75) and sophomore Seth King tied for 15th place at 5-over-par 221 (68-74-79). Senior Cody Oakes had another solid tournament performance tying for 25th place at 8-over-par 224 (72-76-76) and sophomore Matteo Polla tied for 58th place at 15-over-par 231 (76-78-77). Polla and Brown each recorded a pair of eagles during the 54-hole tournament.

"I'm very proud of Conrad who over came an early two stroke penalty to post a solid 75. It's great seeing him play so well," continued Bennett. "Cody (Oakes was solid all week and made some big puts for us. Thi s was a total team win with each player contributing."

WWU closes out the regular-season portion of the 2022-23 schedule April 10-11 at the NCAA West Regional Spring Preview hosted by Sonoma State University at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, California. The tournament will feature as a preview of the NCAA II West/South Central Super Regional held May 11-13 at the same site, featuring 10 teams each from the West and South Central Region. The Vikings are in good position to make their 24th consecutive trip to the NCAA Regional Championships.
