BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Steve Brummel, a 30-year veteran serving various administrative roles in the Department of Athletics at Western Washington University, has been appointed the Interim Director of Athletics.
 
Over the last 10 years Brummel has served as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and took the new role after longtime Director of Athletics Steve Card retired on March 31.
 
Brummel, a Bellingham native and former WWU football student-athlete, will bridge the gap between Athletic Directors overseeing all administrative functions of the department.
 
In addition to overseeing all facilities and operations as the Associate AD, Brummel's lengthy tenure in the department has included sport administration, marketing and sponsorships and overseeing one of the best webcast operations in NCAA Division II. In addition to his long list of roles in athletics, he has also spent nearly 20 years as an instructor of sports marketing in Western's College of Business and Economics and has been an active community member serving in key roles in the Bellingham Bay Rotary Club and the Bellingham Boys & Girls Club.
