COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho – The Western Washington University women's golf team is in fourth place following the first round of the 2023 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort.
 
Playing in windy conditions with off and on rain throughout the round, the two-time defending conference champions shot a 42-over-par 326 in the first round and trails first-place Simon Fraser by 20 strokes on the leaderboard.
 
Freshman Emma Worgum is tied for 3rd individually following a first-round 5-over-par 76 on the par 71 layout. Worgum got off to a great start in her first postseason appearance carding an eagle on the opening hole and was in second place heading into her final hole of the day.
 
Senior Megan Billeter is tied for 13th at 10-over-par 81 and freshman Kasey Maralack is tied for 29th at 13-over-par 84.
 
SFU leads the five-team field by a six-stroke margin over second-place Saint Martin's (+28, 312). Northwest Nazarene is in third place (+37, 321) and Montana State Billings rounds out the field in fifth (+58, 342).
 
Ashley Bruland of Saint Martin's holds the lead for individual medalist after carding a 1-over-par 72, three strokes ahead of second-place Natasha Kozlowski of Simon Fraser.   Here is a look at WWU's individual results and the team leaderboard following Monday's first round of the 2023 GNAC Championships at Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort:
