COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho – The Western Washington University women's golf team wrapped up the 2022-23 season placing fourth at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort.
WWU showed a 10-shot improvement over Monday's opening round carding a 32-over-par 316 on Tuesday, finishing at 74-over-par 642. Western was six strokes back of third-place Northwest Nazarene. Simon Fraser took home the team title with a nine-stroke victory finishing at 41-over-par 609 to defeat Saint Martin's (+52, 620).
Freshman
Emma Worgum paced the Vikings earning a top-10 finish by placing 7th at 14-over-par 156, turning in rounds of 5-over-par 76 and 9-over-par 80 in her first conference championships appearance.
Junior
Dani Bailey recorded one of the best scores in Tuesday's second round with a 4-over-par 75 to move up 10 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 11th place. Bailey's final round included a pair of birdies.
Senior
Megan Billeter concluded her standout student-athlete career tying for 15th place at 20-over-par 162 (81-81). Freshmen
Kasey Maralack (20th, +23, 165) and
Bella McDermott (21st, +26, 168) rounded out WWU's contingent at the conference championships.
Ashley Bruland of Saint Martin's recorded a wire-to-wire victory for individual medalist honors, backing up a 1-over-par 72 in the first round with a 2-over-par 73 on Tuesday for a five-stroke win. Bruland finished at 3-over-par 145 for the tournament to better teammate Kelsie Inouye (+8, 150) for the individual title.
SFU's team title was bolstered by all five players finishing in the top 10 and four scoring players in the top six.
WWU entered the two-day, 36-hole tournament as the two-time defending champions a the GNAC Championships.

ABOUT WWU WOMEN'S GOLF
The WWU women's golf team is in its 30th season as an intercollegiate sport in 2022-23. WWU has a rich history on the links, winning the first five GNAC Championships beginning in 2011 and returned to the podium with back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. WWU made its 12th appearance in the NCAA II West Regional Championships in 2022 after earning the GNAC's automatic bid. WWU has also made six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in nine of the 11 years it has been awarded, including 2021-22 award winner
Megan Billeter. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has had nine All-Americans.
