MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Washington University Track & Field team got off to a great start at the 2023 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday at McArthur Stadium on the Western Oregon University campus.
The WWU men's squad holds a commanding lead with 73.5 points through the first seven scored events, well ahead of second-place Western Oregon with 46.0 points. The Viking men are looking for their fourth consecutive outdoor team title.
The Viking women's squad is locked in a tight battle with Western Oregon through the first seven scored events, with WWU in second place with 76.0 points and WOU leading with 80.0 points.

Friday's team highlights included five event wins, five program top-10 times, 11 All-GNAC performances and 17 personal-best marks. In addition to events that were scored on Friday, the Vikings had 20 student-athletes qualify for the finals after top-eight marks in preliminary action.
Junior Jeret Gillingham and sophomore Ila Davis swept the men's and women's steeplechase races, while junior Andrew Oslin and freshman Meaera Shannon each won the 10,000m races to conclude the first day of action in Monmouth.
The 2023 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude Saturday with field events beginning at 11:30 am and the first track event at 1:40 pm. Fans can follow all the action via live results at GNAC.live.
