PUEBLO, Colo. – The Western Washington University Track & Field program opened competition at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
 
WWU had three competitors in action during the first day of the three-day championship.
 
Sophomore Ila Davis highlighted WWU's three competitors qualifying for the finals in the 3,000m steeplechase. The GNAC champion in the event grabbed the final qualifying spot while placing 12th in a time of 11:01.05. Running at altitude, Davis' time was off her season and personal-best time of 10:21.10 set earlier this season at the Stanford Invitational. Davis will race in the finals Friday night at 7:15 pm MT/6:15 pm PT.
 
Sophomore Jeret Gillingham just missed qualifying for the finals in the 3,000m placing 14th in the prelims with a time of 9:30.05.
 
Sophomore Drew Weber also narrowly missed a spot in the finals racing in the 1500m prelims with a time of 3:53.73 to finish 16th.
 
WWU will have three competitors in action Friday at the NCAA Championships, with Davis in the finals of the 3,000m Steeplechase, Marian Ledesma in the 800m prelims and Weber in the 800m prelims.
