Vikings Celebrate Senior Day With 4-0 Victory

WWU wins sixth consecutive game to remain unbeaten in GNAC play at 8-0-2

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-0 home victory over Central Washington University on Saturday at Harrington Field.

The Vikings scored a pair of goals in each half to secure the season sweep over CWU and move seven points ahead in the GNAC standings. The first-place Vikings are undefeated in conference play with an 8-0-2 mark in league play and have won their last six games to improve to 9-2-4 overall.

Western went up 1-0 in the 16th minute on a goal by senior Kyrsten McGuffey after a pass from senior Halle Noel set up the scoring sequence with a pass. Just over six minutes later the Vikings extended the lead to 2-0 when junior midfielder Claire Potter found the back of the net with a shot into the upper right corner.

WWU added two more second-half goals to bring the game to the final score of 4-0. Senior Ashley Nguyen cleaned up a saved shot from Emily Holdridge for her third goal of the season and sophomore Olivia Connell headed home the final goal off a corner by junior Emily Rice.

Seniors Abigail Trengove (69 minutes, 2 saves) and Grace Wales (21 minutes, 1 save) combined to record the Vikings eighth shutout of the season.

"We played well today. Everyone was motivated to get a good result for the seniors who mean so much to us," said WWU head coach Travis Connell.
