SEATTLE, Wash. – Coming off a conference championship performance at the GNAC Indoor Championships, the Western Washington University Track & Field program gave it one last go during the regular-season indoor finale at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet at Dempsey Indoor.
And the Vikings relay teams certainly made the most of their last chance.
The women's "A" DMR team smashed the school record in 11:27.45 to move up to No. 6 in NCAA Division II, with Sophie Wright (1200m), Caitlyn Cheney (400m), Emmy Kroontje (800m) and Ila Davis (1600m) breaking the old WWU record of 11:40.67 set last season. The Vikings second relay team in the event rank the third-fastest time in program history in 11:42.13 with Mia Crocker (1200m), Annabelle Heiman (400m), Marian Ledesma (800m) and Ashley Reeck (1600m) recording a top-20 time in the nation.
The men's DMR entry nearly broke the school record winning the event in 9:46.78 to just miss the 9:45.48 mark set last season. WWU's time ranks No. 13 in the nation following competition on Saturday, putting them in a good spot to qualify for nationals. The Vikings DMR featured Sam Lingwall (1200m), Brian Le (400m), Jonah Bloom (800m) and Kevin McDermott (1600m).
