ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Western Washington University women's golf team finished 10th out of 16 teams in the spring-opening Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout held Monday-Tuesday at Corica Park South Course.

The Vikings showed a three-stroke improvement in Tuesday's final round from the first round, shooting a 22-over-par 310 in the second round to finish at 47-over-par 623.

Sophomore Emma Worgum led the Vikings tying for 15th place in the 96-player field firing matching rounds of 3-over-par 75 to finish at 6-over-par 150 on the par 72 layout. Worgum carded five birdies in the 36-hole tournament, including four in the first round.

Sophomore Lauren Lee tied for 29th place (+11, 77-78=155) and senior Dani Bailey finished in a tie for 41st place (+14, 79-79=158).

"Today seemed like a solid step in the right direction as we open our spring season. Everyone was a little cleaner in their play today and showed more commitment to their shots and decisions," said WWU Director of Golf Luke Bennett. "Emma (Worgum) continued her solid play and finished the tournament with two consistent rounds in every aspect of her game."

Tournament host Cal State East Bay fired the low round of the day at 4-over-par 292 to overtake the top spot on the leaderboard to earn a one-stroke team victory over Cal State LA at 16-over-par 592. George Fox and Sonoma State tied for the third spot at 21-over-par 597.

Morgan Sjoerdsma won individual medalist honors at 5-under-par 139 with rounds of 58 (-4) and 71 (-1) in the two-day tournament. Zoe Offield of Cal State Monterey Bay was three strokes back for runner-up honors at 2-under-par 142.

The Vikings continue their spring season March 11-12 at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista, California.
