Steeplechase Provides Highlight Sunday at UBC

Laura Halsell runs top-10 time in the 3000m steeplechase to highlight Sunday’s performances

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Western Washington University Track & Field wrapped up competition at the UBC Open on Sunday concluding a busy start to the Vikings spring break.

 

A majority of the two-day event was held Saturday on the Rashpal Dhillon Oval on the University of British Columbia campus.

 

Sunday's highlights included sophomore Laura Halsell placing 4th in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:20.25 to rank 10th in program history.

 

The heptathlon also wrapped up Sunday with four WWU student-athletes making their season debut in the outdoor multis competition. Sophomore Nicole Avery led the Vikings in 7th place with 3,455 points, followed by freshman Karma Walker in 8th place with 3,296 points.

 

Sophomore Ian Eifert placed 2nd in the men's 3000m steeplechase in a personal-best time of 9:26.00 to just miss a place on the all-time program top-10 list. Sophomore Jakob Braunstein was 5th in a deep javelin field with a top mark of 55.17m/181-0.

 

NEXT UP FOR THE VIKINGS
