TURLOCK, Calif. – Through the first two rounds of the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, the Western Washington University men's golf team is in 11th place out of 15 teams.

 

The Vikings carded a two-round team score of 8-over-par 584 on Monday at Turlock Golf & Country Club. WWU is the two-time defending team champion at the event hosted by Stanislaus State University.

 

Juniors Matteo Polla and Ryan Ho are tied for 22nd place in the 92-player field at 1-under-par 143. Polla fired rounds of 73 (+1) and 70 (-2) for his first-day total and Ho opened the day with a 2-under-par 70 and came home with a 1-over-par 73. Junior Seth King is tied for 44th place with matching rounds of 2-over-par 74.

 

Cal State San Bernardino holds the lead heading into Tuesday's final round at 20-under-par 556, highlighted by a 13-under-par second round. Tournament host Stanislaus State is in second place three strokes back at 17-under-par 559 and Cal State Monterey Bay is in third at 14-under-par 562.

 

John Kim of Cal State San Bernardino and Simon Bjorken of Cal State Monterey Bay are tied for the individual lead at 8-under-par 136. Bjorken fired a 7-under-par 65 in the morning round and Kim ended his day with an 8-under-par 65 in the afternoon.

 

Tuesday's final round of the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational tees off with a shotgun start at 8:30 am with the Vikings paired with Hawai'i Hilo, Montana State Billings and Dominican.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 24 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season. WWU placed 3rd at the 2013 national championship for the highest finish in program history and made its 10th trip to the National Championship Finals in 2023 placing 15th. The program has produced 16 NCAA All-Americans and has won 10 of 15 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 10 of 15 tournaments with Jordan Lee joining the elite list of conference champions in 2023 and nine GNAC Player of the Year awards.
