Vikings Off to Strong Start at PLU Invite

WWU records 30 top-three finishes and 10 events during first day of PLU Invite in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. – The Western Washington University Track & Field program returned to outdoor action Friday with the first day of competition at the PLU Invitational.

 

The Vikings captured 30 top three finishes, with the men's squad recording 18 and the women 12.

 

Junior Brian Le was a double winner in the 200m (22.06) and 400m (48.74) events and junior All-American Drew Weber made his season debut winning the 800m (1:53.93). Jaden Edwards won the 400m hurdles (56.58), Manu Greenlee cleared 1.96m/6-5 to win the high jump, Troy Roberson won the long jump (6.63m/21-9) and Gabe Menicke topped the competition in the triple jump (14.08m/46-2.5).

 

Freshman Kora Cook took home first place in both the long jump (1.62m/17-1.5) and high jump (1.62m/5-3.75) to lead the way for the Viking women. Freshman Annabelle Heiman neared top 10 program marks while placing 2nd in both the 100m (12.72) and 200m (25.53) races, Naomi Bates won the 100m hurdles in 15.99 and Brooke Mansfield won the 400m hurdles in 1:05.10.

 

NEXT UP FOR THE VIKINGS

The Vikings close out competition at the PLU Invitational on Saturday with the throwing events at the PLU Track & Field Facility. The Vikings are off next weekend and will then compete in both the Oregon Preview and UBC Invitational March 22-24.
