Men’s 4x100 relay team sets school record in 41.11 seconds

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Western Washington University Track & Field team got a preview of the upcoming GNAC Championships competing in the CWU Wildcat Invitational held Saturday at the CWU Recreation Sports Complex.

 

The Vikings recorded nine program top 10 marks, one school record and had 32 podium finishes competing on the same venue that will serve as the host of the conference championships May 10-11. Western recorded 10 event wins during the all-day competition on the CWU campus.

 

The men's 4x100 relay team broke the school record for the second time this season, clocking 41.11 seconds with Ryan Greenwalt, Ethan Johnson, Nolan Mickenham and Lucas Brenek forming the record-breaking relay. The women's 4x100 relay team of Caitlyn Cheney, Annabelle Heiman, Anna Miller and Hannah Polkinghorn ran the 2nd-fastest time in program history in 46.99.

 

Senior Lucas Brenek finished 2nd in the 400m running a personal-best time of 41.13 to move up to No. 4 in WWU history. 

 

Ellensburg native Caitlyn Cheney finished 3rd in the 200m breaking the 25-second mark for the first time in her career with a PR time of 24.88 to rank 5th in program history.

 

Sophomore Jakob Braunstein won the javelin competition with a season-best throw of 61.88m/203-0 to improve his NCAA II provisional qualifying mark and enter the WWU record book at No. 9.

 

Additional men's event wins included Brian Le in the 100m (10.80), Sam Lingwall in the 1500m (3:59.28), Ian Eifert in the 3000m Steeplechase (9:26.12), Mikko Laulainen in the triple jump (12.87m/42-2.75), and Liam Wall in the discus (48.47m/159-0).

 

Women's event winners included Mia Crocker in the 800m (2:18.06), Evelyn Collins-Winn in the 3000m Steeplechase (11:13.34) and Hannah Polkinghorn in the long jump (5.37m/17-7.5).
