ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Western Washington University women's golf team wrapped up the regular-season schedule with a 4th-place finish at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational on Foxtail Golf Club.
WWU slipped two spots on the leaderboard entering the final round in 2nd place, but still had a strong finish to place in the top half of the tough nine-team field at 57-over-par 633.
Sophomore Emma Worgum earned individual medalist runner-up honors placing 2nd in the 48-player field. Worgum opened the 36-hole tournament with a school-record-tying 4-under-par 68 and finished Tuesday with a 12-over-par 84. Worgum finished one stroke behind Kassie Muanyam of Simon Fraser University, who won the individual title at 7-over-par 151.
Playing in their final regular-season tournament, seniors Claire Moon (tied for 8th) and Dani Bailey (tied for 38th) turned in the Vikings best scores of the final round with Moon firing a 3-over-par 75 and Bailey an 8-over-par 80.
Sophomore Lauren Lee (tied for 23rd) and sophomore Kasey Maralack (tied for 36th) rounded out the Vikings travel contingent to Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, California.
Cal State Los Angeles and Simon Fraser finished tied atop the leaderboard for the team title at 47-over-par 623, with LA winning a scorecard playoff to take home the official tournament title. Tournament host Sonoma State finished just ahead of WWU at 52-over-par 628.
WWU returns to action April 22-23 with the GNAC Championships at Coeur d'Alene Golf Resort in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each day with the team winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA II West Regional Championships.

The WWU women's golf team is in its 31st season as an intercollegiate sport in 2023-24. WWU has a rich history on the links, winning the first five GNAC Championships beginning in 2011 and returned to the podium with back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. WWU made its 12th appearance in the NCAA II West Regional Championships in 2022 after earning the GNAC's automatic bid. WWU has also made six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in nine of the 12 years it has been awarded, including 2021-22 award winner Megan Billeter. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has had nine All-Americans.
