LAS CRUCES, NM – The Western Washington University men's golf team made an early charge up the leaderboard during the second round of the 2024 West/South Central Super Regional, but slipped late in the day into 18th place in the 20-team tournament at University Golf Course.
WWU entered the second round tied for 17th place, but at one point resided in the top 10 with a strong opening seven holes. The Vikings finished the round with a 14-over-par 298 to match Thursday's opening-round score.
Sophomore Peter Dionne-Yahr shot an even-par 71 to move into a tie for 30th place in the 108-player field. Junior Matteo Polla is tied for 54th with back-to-back rounds of 3-over-par 74 for a 36-hole total of 6-over-par 148 and junior Ryan Ho is tied for 72nd place at 9-over-par 151.
West Texas A&M moved into the team lead with a 5-under-par team score of 279 to narrowly lead Colorado Christian by one stroke heading into Saturday's final round.
Adam Duncan (Colorado Christian), Leandro Mihaich (Colorado Christian) and Chris Wardrup (Cal State San Bernardino) are tied for individual medalist honors at 6-under-par 136.
Saturday's final round begins with tee times at 7:30 am with the Vikings paired with Stanislaus State and UT Tyler. Fans can track the live scoring from the tournament via the Golfstat Live Leaderboard at wwuvikings.com/MG_Live.
