BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head softball coach Sheryl Gilmore has added reinforcements for her 2024 national runners-up in transfer signing Olivia Matlock from Saint Martin's University.

The right-handed hitting utility player joins the Vikings for the 2025 season with two years of eligibility remaining.

Matlock is a native of Menlo and former standout at Pe Ell-Willapa Valley High School. She spent her first two collegiate seasons as a starter for GNAC program Saint Martin's. Matlock will be eligible to play immediately for the Vikings in 2025.

In two seasons at Saint Martin's, Matlock combined to bat .257 (58-for-226) with six doubles, nine home runs and 38 RBI. Her time with the Saints was highlighted by her 2023 season where she batted .288 in 42 games (40 starts) as a true freshman while tallying four doubles, 22 RBI and leading the Saints with seven home runs.

In 46 games (34 starts) in 2024, Matlock batted .219 (25-for-114) with two doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI as the Saints went 27-22 (16-8 GNAC) and made their first appearance in the NCAA West Regional since 2015. Matlock went 4-for-10 in the West Regional with a double and four RBI across three games.

"We are very excited to have Liv join us up here at Western and looking forward to not having to pitch to her anymore," said Gilmore. "We know she will fit in right away and elevate our strong returning lineup while also adding to the culture of our program."

Matlock previously played club softball with Vikings shortstop Hailey Rath and had an outstanding prep career at Pe Ell-Willapa Valley High School. In her senior season in 2022 she led the Titans to a state title as a two-way star and all-area MVP. Matlock batted .710 on the season with 38 runs scored, 52 RBI and 12 home runs. In the circle, she struck out 124 batters in 80.2 innings with a 2.08 ERA.

Matlock becomes the fourth member of the 2025 recruiting class for WWU softball under GNAC Coach of the Year Sheryl Gilmore as the Vikings look to build on the most successful NCAA season in program history.
