BURNABY, B.C. – The Western Washington University women's golf team completed its second early-season tournament placing 4th out of 11 teams at the True North Classic.
Completing a stretch of 90 holes of competition golf over five days, the Vikings fared well against a tough tournament field at Riverway Golf Course just outside of Vancouver. WWU placed in the top five with a team score of 91-over-par 955 while playing a 54-hole format.
The Vikings trailed just three top-level Canadian programs led by the University of British Columbia (+35, 899), tournament host Simon Fraser (+39, 903) and UBC Okanagan (+67, 931). WWU was ahead of all other Division II competitors including conference foes Saint Martin's, Seattle Pacific and Northwest Nazarene.
Junior Lauren F. Lee led the Vikings with a top 15 individual finish tying for 14th place in the 65-player field at 17-over-par 233 (80-75-78). In five rounds this season, Lee has a team-best scoring average of 76.6.
Junior Kasey Maralack finished second for the Vikings and tied for 25th overall with a three-round score of 23-over-par 239 (78-80-81). Freshman Lauren J. Lee (T28, +26, 242) and junior Emma Worgum (T30, +27, 243) rounded out the top four scorers for Western. Freshman Kenzie Walsh (35th, +30, 246) completed her second collegiate tournament adding depth to the team with all five players separated by just 13 strokes.
Julia Alexander-Carew of UBC Okanagan won her second tournament in five days, completing the True North Classic at 1-under-par 215 (75-68-72) after also winning the SMU Grisham Memorial late last week. She recorded a five-stroke victory over second-place Grace Bell from UBC (+4, 220).
WWU completes the four-tournament fall schedule in late October playing in a pair of tournaments in Hawai'i.

The WWU women's golf team enters its 32nd season as an intercollegiate sport in 2024-25. WWU has a rich history on the links, winning the first five GNAC Championships beginning in 2011 and returned to the podium with back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. WWU made its 12th appearance in the NCAA II West Regional Championships in 2022 after earning the GNAC's automatic bid. WWU has also made six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in nine of the 12 years it has been awarded, including 2021-22 award winner Megan Billeter. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has had nine All-Americans.
