DUPONT, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's golf team completed its second tournament of the fall season Friday placing 13th out of 18 teams at the SMU Bishop Invitational.

 

WWU carded a three-round team score of 26-over-par 890 while completing a busy start to the season with 108 holes of competition golf in the last five days. The quick start to the season continues Monday-Tuesday with the WWU Invitational at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

 

Junior Peter Dionne-Yahr led the Vikings with a top-20 finish tying for 18th place in the 92-player field at even-par 216. Dionne-Yahr opened the tournament with a bogey-free 4-under-par 68 in the first round and followed with a 1-over-par 73 and 3-over-par 75.

 

Sophomore Christopher Zamani had a pair of rounds under par in the tournament placing in a tie for 31st at 3-over-par 219. The lefty fired an opening-round 2-under-par 70 and carded the Vikings lowest final round score at 1-under-par 71.

 

Freshman Jack Kendrick (T-54, +10, 226), freshman Messiah Gilbert (T-72, +14, 230) and sophomore Nick Ennis (T-77, +16, 232) rounded out the five Vikings that competed in the tournament.

 

Cal State East Bay and Colorado Mesa finished tied atop the team standings at 6-under-par 858, with CSUEB winning the tournament title via scorecard playoff. CSU Pueblo placed 3rd (-3, 861), Hawai'i Hilo 4th (+1, 865) and North Idaho College and Simon Fraser tied for 5th place in the 18-team tournament (+2, 866).

 

Cole Beyer of Colorado Mesa took home individual medalist honors finishing with a 12-under-par 204 (67-71-66) for an eight-stroke victory over Dysen Park (Hawai'i Hilo) and Ben Mulder (Northwest Nazarene) at 4-under-par 212.
