BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Success on the field and in the classroom.
The Western Washington University men's soccer team continued its academic success with 11 student-athletes earning a spot on the 2025 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team presented by Barnes & Noble College.
Under the guidance of head coach Greg Brisbon, the program has placed at least 10 players on the GNAC All-Academic team in each of the last nine years, combining for 104 academic all-conference honors during this stretch beginning in 2017.
WWU's 11 award winners tied for 2nd-most in the conference with Seattle Pacific, trailing only the 14 by Saint Martin's University. The 2025 GNAC Men's Soccer All-Academic team featured 57 selections, with 23 repeat selections and 34 newcomers.
Seniors Albin Jonsson (3.80, Engineering) and Joar Tidblom (3.90, Management) led the Vikings selections as three-time award winners. Senior Sebastiano Silvetti leads the team with a nearly perfect 3.99 cumulative GPA while double-majoring in Theatre and International Business. Both Silvetti (2024-25) and Jonsson (2023-24) are recent recipients of the WWU Scholar Athlete of the Year award.
Additional repeat winners of the GNAC All-Academic award include senior Collin Anderson (3.65, Accounting), senior Frank Miedema (3.91, Law, Diversity & Justice), senior Krubelle Tesfaye (3.82, Management) and junior Edgar Serrano (3.45, Kinesiology/Spanish).
To qualify for academic all-conference, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, must be in at least their second season competing for their team and must have competed on the course during the 2025 campaign. First-year freshman and redshirt freshman are not eligible for the academic all-conference team.
In addition to the high standard in the classroom, WWU is having a great season on the field currently leading the GNAC with a 4-0-1 conference record. After a slow start, the Vikings have turned their season around with a current 7-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) to climb into the No. 10 spot in the West Region United Soccer Coaches rankings.
