Vikings Drop Tight 1-0 Contest at Simon Fraser

WWU is in second place in the GNAC with 5-2-1 GNAC record

BURNABY, B.C. – The Western Washington University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road against Simon Fraser University Saturday afternoon at Terry Fox Field at SFU Stadium.

The Vikings dropped their second consecutive game to fall to 7-6-3 overall, slipping to second place in the GNAC standings with a 5-2-1 conference record (16 points) with two regular-season games remaining. Seattle Pacific moved into first place (5-2-2, 17 points) and Western Oregon is in third place (4-2-2, 14 points). The top three teams in the standings at the end of the regular season advance to the inaugural GNAC Men's Soccer Championship tournament.

"Tough result for us today. This time of year margins are thin and today SFU was the one that was able to convert," said WWU head coach Greg Brisbon. "We have a big week coming up for us and I am confident this group will bounce back."

The Red Leafs scored the lone goal of the game in the 75th minute when Koji Poon found the back of the net following up a saved shot by WWU goalkeeper Charlie Dyer.

SFU held a 15-12 advantage in total shots, but the Vikings held a slight 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
