BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior middle
Emily Vossenkuhl helped lead the Vikings to a pair of wins last week to earn the GNAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week award.
Vossenkuhl averaged 1.67 blocks per set to provide a wall at the net with WWU defeating Saint Martin's and Western Oregon in straight sets in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
The junior middle also contributed 3.00 kills per set on a .371 attack percentage to provide an all-around effort to keep the Vikings in first place in the conference standings with an 11-2 record (17-3 overall).
For the season Vossenkuhl ranks among GNAC leaders in hitting percentage (4th, .334) and blocks (5th, 1.16), while also averaging 1.90 kills per set.
"Voss has a great nose for the ball and makes big moves to either be a part of a double block or in her solo attempts," said WWU head coach
Diane Flick-Williams. "The amount of ground she can cover is impressive, and our defenders really appreciate the space she takes out."
This marks Vossenkuhl's second GNAC Defensive Player of the Week award this season, also earning the honor for matches played September 22-28.
The Vikings are back in action this weekend with GNAC contests at Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday (11 am AKT/12 pm PT) and Alaska Anchorage on Saturday (7 pm AKT/8 pm PT). Both matches will stream live on the pay-per-view
GNAC Network.
