Vikings Add Four From Class of 2025 to Progarm

WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams welcomes four new players to the program

2/11/2025 10:35:00 AM

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head volleyball coach Diane Flick-Williams has announced the addition of four players to the program forming the class of 2025 recruiting class.

The class of four players consists of student-athletes from the state of Washington, continuing a trend that has seen nearly every player during the 25-year coaching career of Flick-Williams come from the Evergreen State.

The four players include two pin hitters, one middle and a defensive specialist and libero. The class will join the WWU volleyball program in 2025 and likely utilize their redshirt season to gain experience at the collegiate level.

"I am really excited about this 2025 group coming in. It is not just about what they can bring to the play of the game, but what they can bring to Viking Volleyball culture," said Flick-Williams. "While they are all unique as individuals, they are the same when it comes to the values of working hard, striving for excellence in the classroom and on the court, and bringing joy to those around them. They are going to be fun to watch and grow here!"

BROOKE BERGLUND  »  VALLEYFORD, WA  »  FREEMAN HIGH SCHOOL » CPA SPOKANE

Berglund is a 6-1 middle blocker out of Freeman High School and the College Preparatory Academy club program in Spokane. During her prep career she was a member of three all district and league championship teams and was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball. As a senior in 2024 she earned First Team All-League honors after earning second-team honors as a junior. Her senior season was capped by being selected Second Team All-State by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association. A standout student-athlete, Berglund was a four-time all-academic pick and was heavily involved with Future Business Leaders of America and was a member of the National Honors Society. Berglund also earned four varsity letters in softball and two in basketball at Freeman High School.

Flick-Williams on Berglund:

"Brooke has a nose for the ball, and what impressed me while watching her was how many balls she touched while blocking and the different shots she had offensively. That takes good reading and good eye work which is a great foundation to start from. She also has a great ability to connect with anyone around her."

Berglund on joining the WWU program:

"What I love about the volleyball program at WWU is the welcoming atmosphere, the competitive and focused environment, along with the overall stability and success of the program."

ALY SKAGEN  »  KENT, WA  »  KENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL » NORTH PACIFIC JUNIORS

Skagen is a 5-10 outside hitter that is a six-rotation player who hails from Kentwood High School and plays for the North Pacific Juniors club program. She was selected as the Kentwood team MVP her junior and senior seasons and was a two-time First Team NPSL 4A selection. During her senior season in 2024 she set the Kentwood single-season record with 379 kills and had a 36-kill effort in a rivalry game vs. Tahoma. Her prep career included earning all-league honors all four seasons. She was part of the honor roll both at Kentwood and as a running start student at Green River College.

Flick-Williams on Skagen:

"Aly is a six-rotation pin that has the tools to not only score points, but keep others from scoring. She has a live arm to move the ball around and is quick in the back row to cover a lot of ground. And she does it all with a big smile on her face!"

Skagen on joining the WWU program:

"I really love the coaching staff and team at WWU. I love the family vibe and how close all the girls are. Also, it is a plus how beautiful Bellingham is and the campus. I am excited to join a competitive program and thrilled to be a Viking!"

MAREN STUBER  »  WENATCHEE, WA  »  WENATCHEE HIGH SCHOOL » NCWVBC

Stuber is a middle by trade but will join the Vikings as a pin hitter after a standout career at Wenatchee High School and with the North Central Washington Volleyball Club (NCWVBC). She also has extensive experience in beach volleyball competing for KBeach Volleyball Club. At Wenatchee HS Stuber helped lead the Panthers to the 2023 WIAA 4A state title and a 3rd-place finish as a senior in 2024. She was a three-time First Team All-League selection and a Second Team WSVCA All-State selection following her senior season. As a student-athlete she was part of the National Honors Society and was an active member in DECA.

Flick-Williams on Stuber:

"With a lot of training on the beach side, Maren has a great command of ball handling. Offensively, she has a strong jump with a whip of an arm, and while she will be playing on the pin for us, her training in the middle in high school will pay off big here. She has a lot of versatility that will be valued in our program."

Stuber on joining the WWU program:

"I chose WWU because of Bellingham's beautiful outdoor atmosphere, the feeling of a town and the campus, and the amazing opportunity to play for the volleyball program. The atmosphere of the team and their vibe as a whole was so positive when I visited, and I felt very much at home. I am excited to play at such a high level but also appreciate the balance of academics and sports."

DANI TURCINEC  »  WEST SEATTLE, WA  »  KENNEDY CATHOLIC » SEATTLE VB ACADEMY

Turcinec has been a setter and outside hitter during her prep and club career but will enter the program as a defensive specialist and libero. She had a standout career at Kennedy Catholic and starred for North Pacific Juniors on the club circuit. At Kennedy she was a First Team All-NPSL selection as a senior in 2024 after earning all-league honors in her previous three years. Her standout prep career concluded earning honorable mention All-State honors after recording 247 digs, 39 service aces and 166 kills. In addition to her on-court accolades, Turcinec was a two-time team captain. Turcinec was also a standout student-athlete as a member of the National Honors Society and was on honor roll. She also played lacrosse during her prep career.

Flick-Williams on Turcinec:

"If I had to sum up Dani in one word, it would be gritty. She loves to get after it whether it is flying after balls to keep the play alive or getting that extra rep in her training. It is that fire and ice mentality (competitive fire with a calm demeanor) that is going to drive her and her teammates to the next level."

Turcinec on joining the WWU program:

"The team is very competitive in a loving way…always helping each other and always hyping each other up and having a good time. WWU was exactly what I was looking for in a college with the campus atmosphere and size, the student-to-teacher ratio and the community seems tight-knit."
