HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Western Washington University softball team wrapped up a perfect 6-0 trip to Hawai'i with a doubleheader sweep over Hawai'i Pacific Sunday at Sand Island Park.
The No. 10 nationally ranked Vikings topped the Sharks 6-1 in the opener while extending their consecutive scoreless innings streak to 27.0 innings and used a 5-run final inning to come-from-behind in the nightcap 7-5. WWU improved to 7-4 on the season with a six-game winning streak heading into next week's GNAC Winter Warmup in Richland, Washington.
Junior shortstop Hailey Rath combined to go 5-for-7 with two runs scored, two doubles, one triple and two RBI in the doubleheader vs. HPU and senior catcher Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez capped a great weekend at the plate going 4-for-6 with two doubles, one home run and four RBI. Overall, the Vikings were 21-for-58 at the plate in the doubleheader and hit .310 as a team during the trip to Hawai'i.
Senior Joie Baker had a great homecoming earning the win in the opener with 5.0 scoreless innings to cap a 3-0, 0.39 ERA (1 ER, 18.0 IP) over the weekend. Sophomore Kaiana Kong pitched in relief both games allowing one run in 4.0 innings and earned the win in the second game with 2.0 perfect innings.
The Viking offense got off to a quick start in nearly every game scoring in the first inning in five of six games in Hawai'i, including both wins Sunday at HPU.
Senior Joie Baker had another great start firing 5.0 scoreless innings allowing three hits in 5.0 innings to earn the win improving to 3-0 on her homecoming trip to O'ahu.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the 1st inning on a sacrifice fly by Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez.
WWU expanded the lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs crossing the plate in the 4th and 5th innings.
Western had its 27.0 consecutive scoreless inning streak snapped in the bottom of the 6th inning when HPU pushed a run across on a double steal.
Senior second baseman Kanilehua Pitoy went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and junior shortstop Hailey Rath was 2-for-3 with a walk. Junior first baseman Olivia Matlock added a double as part of a two-hit game and senior right fielder McKenna Crum went 2-for-3 with a double and triple.

The Vikings had to overcome a deficit for the first time during the trip to Hawai'i trailing 5-2 heading into their final at-bat.
WWU got off to a quick start once again with a pair of first-inning runs on back-to-back RBI doubles by Hailey Rath and Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez.
HPU answered with a pair of runs off starter Alli Kimball and took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
The Vikings rallied for five runs in the top of the 7th inning to complete the comeback victory. Senior McKenna Crum led off with a single to right field and scored on the next play when Maleah Andrews tripled to right field. A sacrifice fly by Kanilehua Pitoy cut the HPU lead to 5-4, but the bases were empty.
Hailey Rath continued the rally with a double to left field and Andrewjeski-Ramirez gave the Vikings the lead with one big swing of the bat hitting a home run to center field to put WWU up 6-5. Olivia Matlock extended the lead with a solo home run for back-to-back longballs by the Vikings No. 4 and No. 5 hitters.
Sophomore relief pitcher Kaiana Kong worked a perfect bottom of the 7th inning to close out the victory to earn the win facing the minimum over her 2.0 innings of work.

The Vikings (7-4) has a short turnaround after traveling back from Hawai'i playing five games next weekend in the inaugural GNAC Winter Warmup at Columbia Playfield in Richland, Washington. The WWU softball program begins its 33rd season in 2025 while coming off a historic 52-12 season in 2024. The Vikings claimed their third GNAC title by winning the 2024 postseason tournament at Viking Field and advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships for the sixth time in program history. Playing on its home field in the NCAA postseason for the first time, WWU won its first West Regional title defeating Cal State San Marcos in the sub-regional and Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Super Regional. The historic season ended playing in the national championship series as part of the NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival in Longwood, Florida. WWU has posted a winning record 21 times during the 32-year history of the program, which won the 1998 NAIA National Championship in only its sixth season to record the school's first ever team national title.
